PURELY SUGARING bikini hair removal

What is sugaring?

Sugaring hair removal dates back to around 1900 B.C. in ancient Egypt.  Even the lovely Queen Cleopatra may have used this hair removal technique to create silky, hairless and healthy skin!  Sugaring is done with sugar paste that is simply made - sugar, lemon juice, and water. (The trusted brand I use, called Alexandria Professional, also adds a gum acaia for stability.) The ingredients are simmered to a honey-like consistency called paste.  The sugar paste only needs to be reheated to body temperature to efficiently remove hair.  It is applied to the skin with a gloved hand against the direction of hair growth.  As the sugar paste acclimates to the body's temperature, it seeps into the hair follicle creating a lubrication around the root for removal.  Then the sugar paste is flicked off the skin as it slides hair out in the direction of growth.  In that same motion, the sugar paste is recollected in the hand to be used again on another section.  Sugaring leaves skin silky smooth from gentle exfoliation of dirt and dead skin cells.  Sugar paste has power to pull hair from the body and yet it is gentle enough to be wiped off the skin with water.

There is no downside to sugaring and once you try it, you will never go back to using wax!

The sugaring difference

Sugaring

Sugaring

Sugaring

sugar paste at body temperature

  • Sugar paste is made from sugar, lemon juice and water.  Sugaring is the term designated to using only this product, not "sugar wax".

  • Sugar paste is used at body temperature.

  • Sugar paste pulls hair in the direction of the growth.

  • Sugar paste causes hair to grow back finer and less dense.

  • Sugar paste does NOT stick to live skin cells.

  • Sugar paste is water-soluble and can be washed off any surface.

  • Sugar paste seeps into hair follicle to pull hair from the root.

  • Sugar paste prevents breeding bacteria because of it's high concentration of sugar.  Furthermore, it is nearly impossible to double dip with a hand full of sugar paste!

  • Sugar paste leaves skin feeling soft, silky and non-irritated, which is especially important for the sensitive bikini and brazilian areas.

  • Sugar paste can safely be used on clients with eczema, diabetes, and varicose veins.

  • Sugar paste is scooped up from a warmer with a gloved hand, applied to the skin in a slow sliding motion, then flicked off with a specific angular motion as it is recollected in the hand.  That ball of paste is reused throughout the service.

waxing

Sugaring

Sugaring

heated wax in a warming pot

  • Wax is made from soy, resins and chemicals.  "Sugar wax" may also contain sugar but it does not qualify for the term "sugaring".

  • Wax is heated to high temperatures and can burn the skin.

  • Wax pulls hair opposite from the direction of growth.

  • Wax causes broken hairs to show within a short time after the service.

  • Wax sticks to anything it is applied to and can "lift" skin.

  • Wax on surfaces must be cleaned with chemical solvents.

  • Wax pulls hair above the root leading to breakage.

  • Wax can be cross contaminated by either double dipping or simply from the ingredients it is made with.

  • Wax can leave the skin feeling sensitive, swollen and bumpy.

  • Wax can be dangerous for clients with eczema, diabetes, and varicose veins.

  • Wax is retrieved from the warmer with a stick, applied to the skin and given time to cool.  It is then pulled off with or without a fabric strip.  The process is repeated multiple times during a service, creating a fair amount of waste.
